Mary Ann Scherr was trained at the Cleveland Institute of Art, The University of Akron, Kent State University, The New School. NYC, and Durham Tech Computer Center. She is the former Chair of the Product Design Department at Parsons School of Design, New York and the New School For Social Research, New York. Educator at Duke University, Meredith College, North Carolina State University; Haystack, Maine. Penland School of Crafts, North Carolina; is former Associate Professor of Metals Graduate Studies at Kent State University. Ms Scherr has conducted studio demonstrations throughout USA and other countries including, Seoul,Korea/ Tokyo,Japan /Caracas Venezuela/ Montreal, Canada / Mexico. She has exhibited and lectured internationally; Korea, Russia, Japan, Venezuala. She has been a consultant with Reed & Barton Silversmiths and Perry Ellis, Fashion Designer. Her studio produces both unique works and prototypes for limited and mass production.

Her jewelry and art/design works are in the permanent collections of major museums, including The Vatican Museum of Art in Rome/ The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City/ The Museum of Art + Design, New York City/ The National Museum of American Art-The Renwick. Mary Ann Scherr pioneered the use of exotic metals in adornment, stainless steel, rare earth metals, aluminum and mild steels. Through commissions from The Aluminum Company of America,(ALCOA) and The United States Steel Company,(USS), these collections toured nationally and were published through media processes. She is internationally  recognized for her research and development of electronic "BODY MONITORS" and shares this investigation with other scientists. This work has earned her patents and an Honorary Degree, “Doctor of Humane Letters, and is included in the United States National Archives She has developed and copyrighted a metal-etch process. She has earned a "Lifetime Achievement" AWARD from The National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC, and received the "Distinguished Women of North Carolina" AWARD. Kent State University AWARD, the first annual "Excellence in Crafts: 1995".The City Council of Raleigh, NC Arts Commission AWARD "The Medal of Arts 1997”, Award for ”Extraordinary  Achievements In The Arts”; ”BEST OF ‘98.- Ohio Craft Museum, AWARD.
